Rodeo Event Insurance
Protect your production from gate to grandstand. General liability, spectator injury, animal liability, and event cancellation coverage for rodeo producers and promoters.
The Insurance Needs of a Rodeo Production
Producing a rodeo is a complex undertaking that involves managing significant liability exposure from the moment the gates open to the moment the last stock trailer leaves the property. You are responsible for the safety of thousands of spectators, dozens of contestants, a crew of staff and volunteers, multiple stock animals, and the operations of vendors and exhibitors on your grounds. Rodeo event insurance from Contractors Choice Agency is designed to address every layer of that exposure.
We have placed event coverage for single-performance jackpot rodeos, weekend PRCA-sanctioned events, multi-day professional rodeos, charity rodeos, and arena rodeos with audiences ranging from a few hundred to tens of thousands. Our experience with rodeo production means we understand the coverage requirements imposed by sanctioning bodies, venues, and local governments — and we know how to satisfy them efficiently.
General Liability Coverage
General liability is the foundation of any rodeo event insurance program. It covers bodily injury and property damage claims arising from your event operations. If a spectator trips over arena equipment and is injured, if a contestant's property is damaged by your crew, or if your event causes damage to a venue property, your general liability policy responds.
Policy limits for rodeo events typically start at $1 million per occurrence and $2 million aggregate. For larger events, we can structure higher limits. We also offer umbrella liability policies that extend your protection well beyond primary policy limits, which is appropriate for major productions drawing large crowds.
Spectator Liability
Spectator injuries at rodeo events are an ongoing liability concern. Livestock can charge fences, roping cattle can escape the arena, and rodeo equipment can malfunction. When a spectator is injured, the resulting claim can be substantial — especially if the injury involves a child or results in long-term disability.
Our spectator liability coverage specifically accounts for the presence of livestock and the inherent spectator risks of rodeo events. Unlike general event liability policies written for concerts or festivals, ours are underwritten with rodeo arenas and the specific hazards they present in mind.
Animal Liability Coverage
Rodeo animal liability addresses the unique exposure created by having multiple large, unpredictable animals in close proximity to the public. This coverage responds when a bull escapes, a bronc jumps a fence, or a roping horse causes injury to a bystander. It is a critical endorsement that many general liability carriers exclude or severely limit.
For event producers who contract with independent stock contractors, we can structure animal liability coverage that addresses your exposure even when the animals are not owned by your organization. The key is ensuring there are no gaps between your policy and your stock contractor's coverage.
Event Cancellation and Postponement Insurance
When a rodeo is cancelled or postponed due to circumstances beyond your control, the financial damage can be severe. Pre-sold tickets must be refunded, vendor contracts may trigger penalty clauses, performer deposits may be non-refundable, and months of marketing investment can evaporate. Event cancellation insurance reimburses these non-recoverable expenses.
Covered cancellation causes typically include severe weather, natural disasters, venue destruction, loss of key performers due to death or injury, governmental order, and other specified perils. Coverage is structured based on your total event budget and the categories of pre-event expenses you need to protect.
Note that terrorism and communicable disease cancellations are typically separate coverage options. We can discuss these add-ons based on your event location and risk tolerance.
Who Needs Rodeo Event Insurance
Sanctioning Body Requirements
The PRCA requires all member rodeos to carry minimum liability insurance and to provide proof of coverage before sanctioning approval. WPRA, PBR affiliated events, and regional associations have similar requirements. We know these requirements and can issue certificates that satisfy them quickly — typically within 24-48 hours.
